Learn, read, and test
Kotoba Drill’s main content

Kotoba Drill isn’t just another place to memorize vocabulary or grammar.
We shine a light on the background, feelings, and culture behind everyday Japanese,
aiming to help you deeply understand words and truly use them.
The word “drill” also means to dig and to train.
Kotoba Drill explores Japanese—shaped by native words, Sino-Japanese, and loanwords—
carefully, step by step, to learn how words formed and how they’re used.
Knowing a word’s background is understanding culture.
When you ask “why did this word arise?” and “why do people say it this way?”,
language becomes closer and more enjoyable.
If JLPT is your goal, there are many great sites for that.
Kotoba Drill goes beyond exams,
to teach “living Japanese” for life, work, and feeling in Japan.
Through news, conversation, culture, and emotional expression,
we focus on the real, everyday Japanese used in society,
building not just knowledge but practical command.
Read, listen, think, compare—through these experiences,
feel the stories behind each and every word.
Learning Japanese is slowly learning the culture called Japan.
We hope Kotoba Drill can be a signpost on that journey.
